HURRICANE OF 1928 LECTURE
Jupiter, FL: The Loxahatchee River Historical Society is pleased to  announce the first free historic lecture of the fall with Robert Mykle,  author of Killer ‘Cane: The Deadly Hurricane of 1928, on Thursday,  September 18 at 6 pm at the Jupiter Community Center, 210 Military  Trail. Mykle will talk about his book and the devastating history of  the great Florida hurricane.

One of the deadliest storms in American history, the hurricane rampaged  through Florida on September 16, 1928 and killed thousands of people in  a single night and left several towns in ruins. Robert Mykle’s account  of the hurricane presents the stories of the survivors and those less  fortunate. Based on extensive archival research and interviews,  Killer ‘Cane reveals how the disaster was made even worse by ignorance  and prejudices of the day.

Robert Mykle has written for the Cape Cod Times, the Palm Beach Post,  and numerous other publications. He lives in Lake Worth, Florida.

This project has been financed in part with Historical Museums Grants- in-Aid Program assistance provided by the Bureau of Historical Museums,  Division of Historical Resources, Florida Department of State, Glenda  Hood, Secretary of State.

Hours & Admission: The Loxahatchee River Historical Museum is open to  the public Tues.–Fri., from 10 am–5 pm, Sat.–Sun., from 12 pm–5 pm.  Summer Admission is $3 per person until September 20. The Lighthouse  is open, Sat.–Wed., from 10 am–4 pm. The last tour leaves at 3:15 pm.  Admission is $6 for all visitors. The DuBois Pioneer Home is open  Wednesday and Sunday, from 1 pm–4 pm. Closed in August and September.  Admission is $2 each.
